The usage of bench vise goes back to the early stages of the mechanics as a fragment to fix the components of wood or metal or as a mechanism for applying the forces like vise or micrometer. The Main Components of a Bench Vise

Fixed Jaw


This one makes a part of the body of the bench vise and it doesn’t travel in procedure of fixing a piece of work. Fixed jaw in a bench vise has threaded hole which works as a nut through which the screw rotates and there are 2 parallel protrusions which function as a sustenance and way where the movable jaw moves.

Movable Jaw

It is a part of the bench vise which slides in a horizontal manner driven by the screw and it functions to apply the force that holds the work piece.

Support Segments


In a bench vise, these are the pieces of steel positioned on jaws’ edge by screws and they’re those which has the work pieces. Their fundamental features are that they can be replaced in case of damage and it could be an issue if the jaws directly touch with the work piece.

Screw

It rotates in the nut in fixed jaw and it is at the front end of the lever while its end has a shape which lets it to make rotations in a hole in the movable jaw for its retention without separation.
